Dwight Howard dominating some playoffs
By DwightHowardClub.com | April 23, 2008
Sorry, it’s been awhile since we’ve updated around here at the Dwight Howard Club. But it’s playoff time and the Magic are off to a hot start. Howard and the Magic took a 2-0 series lead on the Raptors Tuesday night. Our guy went nuts again. Check out his first two games of the series:
Game 1: 25 pts, 22 rebounds, 5 blocks
Game 2: 29 pts, 20 rebounds, 3 blocks
Talk about DOMINATING! If D Howard plays this way it will be tough for any team to compete with the magic. Now they go to Toronto to try and break serve and win on the road. Good luck Dwight!

Dwight Howard wins award
By DHCMan | April 1, 2008
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) — The Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard was named the 2007-2008 winner of the Rich & Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award Saturday night at the 18th Annual Black Tie & Tennies Charity Gala held at the J.W. Marriott Grande Lakes. This marks the second time Howard has won the award (2004-05 and 2007-08).
Each year at the Gala, the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation (OMYF) honors a player who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing others lives. An anonymous panel of external representatives selects the player. In addition to receiving the award, the player is granted $50,000 from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation to donate to the charity of his choice.
Howard has consistently volunteered his time off the court and to the Central Florida community supporting the initiatives of the Magics community relations department, the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation and the NBA. Highlights of his community involvement for the 2007-2008 season include:
Donated $25,000 to the Pine Hills Boys & Girls Club which included a shopping spree for 75 members, books and the chance for them to purchase new computers, supplies and furniture.
Helped raise money for the OMYF by participating in the OMYF Golf Tournament.
While in China during the preseason participated in clinics with children from a school for children of migrant workers and Special Olympics Olympians.
Provided the opportunity for 40 children each game a chance to see the Magic play through his Dwights Disciples ticket program.
Participated in three internal autograph sessions, which helps support Central Florida non-profit organizations by raising money through silent auctions.
Met with a Make A Wish child before a game to sign autographs and take photos.
Participated in postgame autograph sessions with season ticket holders.
Donated gifts for the Magic holiday party with underprivileged children and their families.
While in New Orleans for All-Star weekend participated in a KaBoom! playground build as part of NBA Cares service projects.
Spoke to students from Ventura Elementary about the importance of reading at a Scholastic Book Fair.
Assisted building a playground as part of the Magics annual KaBoom! playground build for residents of Santa Barbara Apartments in Winter Park.
Met military families postgame as part of the Magics Seats for Soldiers Night on March 21.
Past winners of the award include Nick Anderson (1995-1996), Penny Hardaway (1996-1997), Darrell Armstrong (1997-1998, 1999-2000), Grant Hill (2000-2001), Monty Williams (2001-2002), Tracy McGrady (2002-2003), Pat Garrity (2003-2004) and Bo Outlaw (1998-1999, 2005-2006, 2006-2007).
The funds raised this year by the OMYF were distributed to the community through grants totaling $621,350. On January 27, checks to 25 organizations from nine different counties (Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard, Volusia, Flagler, Lake, Polk and Sumter) were presented at halftime of the Magic vs. Boston game. The beneficiaries were recommended by the OMYF VIP Committee and then approved by the McCormick Tribune Foundations Board of Directors after an extensive five-phase process which began in July of 2007.
The annual Black Tie & Tennies Charity Gala, along with the Player Championship for Charity Golf Tournament and on-line auctions, represent the most significant fundraisers of the OMYF.
The Orlando Magic Youth Foundation, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, is committed to helping every child in Central Florida realize their full potential, especially those most at risk, by supporting programs and partnerships that empower families and change lives. The OMYF is supported through a team effort by Magic players, coaches, staff and the DeVos Family, in partnership with season ticket holders, corporate partners, fans and the community. Nearly $14 million has been granted to local non-profits that support the mission statement.

Dwight Howard likes to bowl?
By DHCMan | March 19, 2008
How would you like to see a 6′11, 265lb man bowl? Not an everyday sight these days. One of the more popular athletes in America, the winner of the Dunk Contest has made himself known in area bowling areas. The 22 year old from Atlanta has made bowl a sport in which he practices often.
He claims ” I like winning. I’m a pretty good bowler, so it’s fun for me.” ” It’s my favorite sport to play besides Basketball.”"
Anyone out there want to challenge D.H. to a round of bowling?

Nice interview with Dwight Howard
By DwightHowardClub.com | March 12, 2008
Q: How often do you go to the amusement parks in Orlando?
A: I can’t go as often as I would like to. But when I first got into the league, I did go to Disney and Universal Studios a lot.
Q: Are you an amusement park guy?
A: I was. But now it’s real hard to get out and get on the rides without getting stopped or anything.
Q: Do you like roller coasters, or do you hate the scary stuff?
A: I love roller coasters. I think the best ride in Orlando would have to be the Hulk ride.
Q: What’s that?
A: It’s a roller coaster, and it’s an amazing ride. You have to come check it out.
Q: How many rides are you not allowed on because of your height (6-foot-11)?
A: Just all the kiddie rides.
Q: You’ve tried to get on the kiddie rides?
A: I’ve tried. But I’m just too big. I almost broke one of the machines.
Q: You on “It’s a Small World.” That must be quite a sight.
A: It was, it was.
Q: A lot of people mention, now that Shaq’s gone, that you’re the best big man in the Eastern Conference. How does that make you feel?
A: It feels good to be put in that category. But I’m just going to continue to go out there every night and play 110 percent and help my team win.

Dunk 4 Overview: Mini Backboard Windmill
By DwightHowardClub.com | February 25, 2008
Over the next 4-5 days we will have a brief little description of all 4 of D. Howards electrifying dunk contest from the other night:
Dunk 4: The final dunk looked like it was originally planned for the 12-foot hoop, which Howard was not allowed to use. Nelson stuck a miniature suction cupped hoop onto the bottom right of the backboard and then placed the ball in it. Coming from the right baseline, Howard jogged over, grabbed the ball and did a windmill dunk to seal the victory.
