Dunk 2 Overview: Superman

By DwightHowardClub.com | February 23, 2008

Over the next 4-5 days we will have a brief little description of all 4 of D. Howards electrifying dunk contest from the other night:

howard-dunk-2-superman.jpgDunk 2: This was perhaps the most memorable dunk of the night. Howard pulled his shirt off to reveal the Superman “S”, and then Orlando Magic teammate Jameer Nelson placed a Superman cape on his back. Dwight then ran around the court for a minute with his arms extended, pretending to be the superhero. Nelson stood behind the hoop, as Dwight took off from just two feet inside the free throw line. While in the air, Nelson threw Howard the ball, and with arms and legs extended (nearly parallel to the ground), Howard caught it cleanly and was up so high that he literally chucked the ball into the hoop instead of dunking it.

howard-dunk-1.jpgDunk 1: Howard got things going with a bang, tallying a perfect 50 points with his first dunk. Standing out of bounds behind the backboard , Howard through the ball gently off the back of the glass, grabbed it with two hands, wind-milled the ball and threw it down with his left hand, while still having his head on the backside of the backboard.

Dwight Howard threw it on purpose

By DwightHowardClub.com | February 21, 2008

There has been some controversy over whether or not that Superman dunk the other night was actually a dunk.  Here is what the man has to say about him himself:

‘See, the thing is, for people who never dunked before, you don’t have to touch the rim to dunk the ball. People were saying that it wasn’t a dunk because I didn’t touch the rim – you know, a lot of dunks I do during the season I don’t ever touch the rim, it’s just the fact that I put it in. And I wanted it to have the effect that it’s impossible what I did, so that’s why I threw it in like that.’

[...]

Yeah, but you see thing was, I wanted to throw it in. That way it would have looked a lot more cooler, and people would have been like, there’s no way that somebody could possibly do that but Superman.’

I love this guy!!!!!!!

Dawkins delivers on Howard dunk names

By DwightHowardClub.com | February 20, 2008

Darryl Dawkins a.k.a. Chocolate Thunder was one of the lucky judges in the 2008 NBA Dunk Contest.  He has become halfway famous for “naming” dunks.  Check out the comments he had about D. Howard!

“Dwight is the closest thing to young Darryl Dawkins,” laughed Dawkins, 51, a community ambassador for the New Jersey Nets who lives in Allentown, Pa. “I’m a big fan. He has a little showmanship to him. He came out there dancing — and most 7-footers can’t dance. They’re too awkward.”

So here are a couple of the names he gave our man’s dunks

You guys have any other creative names?

Round 1 Dunk: Head on backside of rim

By DwightHowardClub.com | February 20, 2008

So this is the dunk that got Dwight Howard and the fans really going in the 2008 NBA Dunk Contest. This was his round one dunk. He tossed the ball off the back of the backboard. Caught it and dunked it home, with his head STILL on the backside of the backboard. How can that even happen? If it were me, I’d have a huge headache today from banging my head on the backboard. Props to Dwight Howard on this dunk that got a big 50 from the judges. Here it is:

The beginning, Dwight Howard Club

By DwightHowardClub.com | February 18, 2008

Thanks for visiting Dwight Howard Club!  D. Howard is quickly emerging into one of the most electric, dominant big men in the NBA.  We all know him for his “Superman” dunk in the 2008 NBA All-Star game.  But what some of you don’t understand is this guy is a freak.  Nearly 7 foot with a 40 inch vertical leap.  Can bring in 20 points, 20 boards about any night he wants to.  A pure basketball specimen.  We started this fan site to keep up with Dwight Howard news, videos and rumors with hopes of it becoming big and eventually getting a chance to meet Dwight Howard himself!  Enjoy and feel free to give feedback!
